Conservative Councillor for Bicknacre and East and West Hanningfield Ward
Spent 25 years at a senior management level in financial services before entering local politics, his wife Julia recently retired from the NHS; they live in East Hanningfield and Mike is always available to residents on 01245 400142. He is ready to visit them to listen to and act on both concerns and ideas. As a Parish Councillor and a Governor of a local school with which four generations of his family have been involved, he takes an active part in the community.
He has worked on the Temple Farm development involving himself with the residents at every stage and although the lottery grant for the community suite at East Hanningfield was not approved, the preparation is done and the idea is very much alive and Mike is working closely with the Hanna’s Field Charity to bring it to fruition and develop the village hall, now in its 25th year, as a hub for village life into the future.
The promise made to provide affordable housing for local people has been put in place in East Hanningfield and West Hanningfield’s scheme will be in place by the year end, where the finance for good transport management is ready and Mike believes that the project should be driven by local residents and will work closely with the Parish Council to ensure it happens.
Within the Borough of Chelmsford Mike chairs the Licensing and Regulatory Committee and has been involved with some challenging decisions he is always mindful of Chelmsford’s national reputation as a safe and happy town. He was involved with a consultation with the coalition Government about the structure of a new licensing act. He represents the Borough on the Local Strategic Partnership, helping to manage large funding reductions whilst keeping vital front line services. Recognizing considerable achievements Mike is keen to face new challenges with all sections of the community.
